CHESTER, Pa. –
Alyssa Carman scored two goals and the Widener women's soccer pushed past visiting Wilkes, 3-0, in a rainy home opener on Sunday afternoon at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium.
With the victory, the Pride stayed unbeaten on the season, improving their record to 2-0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WILKES
- With the game scoreless through the first 40 minutes, first-year Kelly Barr got the Pride on the scoreboard in the 41st minute after scoring off an assist by Madison Blackshire. The Pride took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
- Then, Carman took charge of the scoring effort in the second half with back-to-back goals in the 85th and 89th minutes. The sophomore's first goal came off a pass from Katie Quarry, while her second goal was unassisted.
- The Pride offense was on the attack today, taking 16 shots. The Pride's shot total marked the second time this season they had 16 or more shots in a match.
- Samantha Coon was in goal the entire match and tallied three saves for the shutout. The junior recorded her second shutout in as many days after blanking Moravian on Saturday.
- The Pride defense also stood out as a unit, allowing only six shots to Wilkes in the contest.
