Women’s Soccer Faces Local Foe Rowan

Pride drop first match of the season

CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener women's soccer team battled hard against local rival Rowan, but it could stay unbeaten on the season as the Profs dealt the Pride a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday night at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium. 

With the loss, the Pride dropped to 2-1-2 on the young season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ROWAN
  • The Profs got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute after scoring a goal on their fourth shot of the game.
  • Following the goal, the Pride got aggressive on the offensive end, outshooting the Profs, 7-1, in the final 20 minutes of the half. However, the Profs saved two of the Pride's shots and the other five shots were off target, which allowed Rowan to go into halftime with the 1-0 lead. 
  • Then, three minutes Into the second half, the Profs added their second goal to increase their advantage.
  • The Pride took five shots in the second half, but could not find the back of the net. Alyssa Carman led the Pride with five shots, four of which were on goal. Kelly Barr added three shots, including one on goal, in the defeat.

Widener will host Christopher Newport on Sunday afternoon at Quick Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
