ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Bryant Maits scored a career-high seven goals and the Widener men's lacrosse team clinched a spot in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Tournament by earning a 20-6 win over Lebanon Valley on Wednesday afternoon in their MAC Commonwealth clash at Arnold Field.
With the win, the Pride improved to 7-7 on the season and 5-2 in MAC Commonwealth play to qualify for the conference tournament for the 25
th time in the last 26 seasons. The Pride are in a tie for third place in the MAC Commonwealth with Eastern.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LEBANON VALLEY
- The Pride jumped out to a 4-2 lead over the Dutchmen after the first quarter. Maits and Heisman scored two goals apiece in the quarter.
- In the second quarter, the Pride powered their way to seven goals in the period to take an 11-3 lead at halftime. Maits flung in two more goals, Michael Tagliaferri added two goals, and Heisman, Mike Kala'I and Zach Politarhos chipped in one goal apiece.
- In the second half, the Pride outscored the Dutchmen, 9-3, by netting four goals in the third and five more in the fourth.
- Maits' seven goals surpassed his previous high of three, which he accomplished twice this season. The sophomore attack has three hat tricks for his career.
- Heisman moved into fifth place on Widener's all-time goals list with 143 goals. The senior attack also registered his 28th career game in which he had scored three or more goals with his hat trick.
- Keegan Billie earned the win in goal after making nine saves for Widener.
UP NEXT
The Pride will hit the road Saturday to face Stevenson in a big game to close out the regular season. A win for the Pride could earn them as high a second seed in the conference tournament. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.
