CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener men's lacrosse team played tough against No. 6 York in the first half, but the Spartans scored 14 goals in the second half to come away with 18-6 win on Friday afternoon in their MAC Commonwealth clash on Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium.
With the loss, the Pride dropped to 6-7 on the season and 4-2 in MAC Commonwealth play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK
- The Pride jumped out to a 3-2 lead over the Spartans after the first quarter. After the Spartans opened the game with two goals, the Pride received three consecutive scores from Jimmy Knepp, Connor Heisman and Michael Tagliaferri to take the lead.
- In the second quarter, the Spartans scored two goals to take a 4-3 lead, but the Pride knotted the game at 4 at halftime after Heisman found the net off a Tagliaferri pass with 47 seconds left in the half.
- In the third quarter, the Spartans outscored the Pride, 6-1, to take a 10-5 lead. Bryant Maits had the lone goal for the Pride in the period.
- In the fourth, York put in eight goals while Widener had one to end the game. Heisman had the lone score for the Prife in the final period.
- Heisman moved into sixth place on Widener's all-time goals list with 140 goals. The senior attack also registered his 27th career game in which he had scored three or more goals with his hat trick.
- Keegan Billie had a valiant effort in goal, making a career-high 23 saves in the defeat.
