CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener softball team earned a split in its Strike Out Cancer Night doubleheader against Delaware Valley on Tuesday at the Widener University softball field.
The Pride won the first game, 6-4, but the Aggies took the second game of the twin bill by a 4-3 count.
The Pride are now 17-9 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY IN GAME 1
- The Pride jumped out to a 4-0 lead through four innings after scoring a pair of runs in the second and another pair in the fourth. Mikayla Fedele had an RBI single to right field and scored the second run on a throw following Liz Renavitz's single in the second inning. In the fourth, Malia Calciano had an RBI double and Renavitz had an RBI single.
- After the Aggies scored a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to two, the Pride got two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after Fedele had an RBI single to right and scored on an error to take a 6-2 lead before holding on to win by two.
- Fedele led the Pride at the plate, going 2-for-3. The sophomore also earned the win on the mound by allowing only one unearned run on nine hits and striking out four. Fedele improved her record to 7-4.
- Becca Tiley and Renavitz also had two hits apiece in the win. Tiley scored three of the team's runs as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY IN GAME 2
- The Pride raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Tiley hit an RBI single and Calciano followed with a two-run double.
- However, the Aggies scored all of their runs in the second inning and kept the Pride off the scoreboard for the rest of the game to earn the win.
- Tiley and Calciano paced the Pride at the plate, both going 2-for-3. Sam McCarthy had the only other hit for the Pride in the defeat.
- Despite the loss, Renavitz pitched a complete game for the pride, allowing four earned runs while striking out eight.

The Pride will hit the road Thursday to take on Messiah in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader. The first game is set for 3 p.m., with the nightcap to follow at 5.
