Men’s Volleyball Plays Messiah in MAC Match

Pride push Falcons to brink of defeats in two of three sets

GRANTHAM, Pa.- The Widener men's volleyball team played hard, but could not win its third match in a row after falling to Messiah, 25-12, 25-21, 30-28, in its MAC match on Wednesday night at Hitchcock Arena.

With the loss, the Pride dropped to 7-13 on the season and 2-10 in MAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MESSIAH
  • After a tough first set, the Pride played a lot better in the second set by grabbing the lead five times in the set, including an 18-16 advantage after Josh Matchett and Dylan Beer combined on a block. In addition, there were 12 ties in the game, including a 21-all tie after Matchett had a kill to knot it up. However, the Falcons scored the last four points to earn the victory.
  • The Pride played their best in the third set, as they played the Falcons — who are 11-0 in MAC play — to a win-by-two scenario beyond the 25th point. The Pride had a chance to win the set after taking a 25-24 by scoring a point on a Matchett kill and a Messiah attack error, but the Falcons tied the game on a kill. The two teams kept exchanging points until the Falcons broke a 28-all tie by scoring the final two points of the match.
  • Matthew Christ and Declan Quinn paced the Pride with five kills apiece. Matchett handed out 18 assists to help the offense.
  • Defensively, Beer led the Blue and Gold with four blocks, while Cole Nagle had five digs.
