READING, Pa. - The Widener men's volleyball team battled hard against Alvernia, but the Golden Wolves came away with a 25-22, 25-11, 25-19 victory in their MAC match on Tuesday night at Alvernia's Physical Education Center.
With the loss, the Pride dropped to 5-11 overall and 1-8 in MAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- The Pride almost won the opening set, as they held a 22-19 lead after going on an 8-1 run to overcome a four-point deficit. Josh Matchett led the Pride during the run with two kills, while Michael Martino and Dylan Beer each had a kill.
- Unfortunately, the Golden Wolves scored the final six points of the game to take the set.
- After a tough second set, the Pride went back and forth with the Golden Wolves in the third game, as they were tied at 7. Matchett and Ethan Cox each had a kill and Martino had an ace in the early going.
- However, Alvernia went on an 8-2 run to get some separation and go on to win the set by six to take the match.
- Cox paced the Pride in kills, aces and blocks, tallying eight kills, one ace and four blocks. Matchett led the Pride in assists (19) and digs (5) in the defeat.
UP NEXT
Widener will be back in action on Saturday when they host King's College and American International College in a Senior Day tri-match. The Pride will face King's in a MAC matchup at noon, then will take on AIC at 4 p.m.
