WHITTIER, Calif. – The Widener men's lacrosse team went out to the West Coast and played close with Whittier through three quarters, but ultimately lost to the Poets, 14-8, on Tuesday night on Wallace "Chief" Newman Field at Memorial Stadium.
The loss put the Pride at 1-2 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WHITTIER
- The Pride played tough against the Poets in the first half, as they only trailed 5-3 at halftime. The Pride held the Poets to their lowest goal total in the first half so far this season.
- In the third quarter, the Pride tied the Poets at 7 after scoring four goals. Jayce Dyer fired in two of those goals, including the game-tying one with 1:22 remaining.
- However, the Poets put in two goals in the final 82 seconds of the period to take a 9-7 lead. In the fourth, the Poets scored five straight goals before the Pride managed to get a goal from Austin Novick for the final score of the game.
- Dyer and Novick finished with a team-high two goals. Nick DiCicco, Mason Lefever, CJ Lane, and George Balascak each had one goal in the defeat.
- Sam Heister did all he could in goal for the Pride, as he made 13 saves.

The Pride will be returning to Pennsylvania and paying a visit to Arcadia on March 9 in a non-conference clash. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
