CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Widener men's lacrosse team battled hard against Washington College, holding a one-goal lead in the third quarter before dropping a 17-7 contest to the Shoremen on Wednesday night on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.
The loss put the Pride at 1-5 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WASHINGTON COLLEGE
- After trailing, 3-2, at halftime, the Pride came out and scored three of the first four goals in the third quarter to take a 5-4 lead with 10:11 remaining. Connor Heisman, Mike Kala'I, and Matt Buckley scored the Pride in the period, with Heisman flinging in the tying goal and Buckley firing in the go-ahead goal.
- Unfortunately, the Shoremen scored 11 straight goals — four of them to end the third quarter and seven of them to start the fourth — to put Widener in a 15-5 deficit that it could not overcome.
- Heisman and Buckley added a goal apiece in the fourth quarter to finish the game with two goals each. Zach Politarhos also had two goals, which came in the first half.
UP NEXT
The Pride will return to Chester to host the University of New England on Saturday in non-conference action. Game time is set for noon. The game is also the Pride's Down Syndrome Awareness Day game, as they will be raising funds for individuals affected by the genetic disorder.
