Men’s Volleyball Hangs Tough in Home Tri-Match

Pride fall to Arcadia, Randolph-Macon

CHESTER, Pa . - The Widener University men's volleyball team battled hard but fell to both Arcadia and Randolph-Macon in a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the Schwartz Athletic Center.

Arcadia won in straight sets against the Pride, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20, in their MAC match to open the day. In the second match, the Pride won its first set against Randolph-Macon, 27-25, but lost the following three sets, 27-25, 25-18, 25-19.

The Pride are now 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in MAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ARCADIA
  • The Pride holster tough and remained within six points in each set by relying on their defense. The Blue and Gold tallied eight blocks, with Carter Tran and Dylan Beer coming up with three apiece.
  • The Pride had their best chance to win a game in the second set, as they rallied from a 19-14 deficit to tie the game at 23 before the Knights scored the final two points in the set. Beer had a kill and an ace, and Tran had one solo block and one assisted block during the Pride's 9-4 run.
  • Josh Matchett totaled 20 assists to highlight the Pride's offense.
  • Matthew Christ paced the Pride with seven kills.

  • Christ led the Pride with a career-high 17 kills. Tran came up with eight and Beer had six in the defeat.
  • Matchett led the Pride with 34 assists.
