YORK, Pa. – Senior
Nicole Barnes dropped a game-high 27 points while leading the Widener women's basketball team to a convincing 76-54 victory over York for its sixth straight victory on Saturday afternoon in its MAC Commonwealth clash at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
With the win, the Pride moved into a tie for second place with York in the MAC Commonwealth standings at 10-3. The Pride also avenged their 60-54 loss to the Spartans that they suffered on. Dec. 15 and improved their overall record to 14-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK
- Barnes had a big day for the Pride, scoring 19 of her 27 points in the first half.. The Garnet Valley, Pa. native shot 9-for-14 (64.3 percent) from the field, pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, handed out a game-high six assists, and had a game-high six steals.
- The Pride battled back and forth with the Spartans in the first seven minutes of the game, as York held a 13-12 advantage. However, the Pride kicked their game into high gear by going on an 11-0 run to end the quarter and take a 24-13 lead. Barnes had 12 points in the quarter, including six during the team's 11-0 run.
- In the second quarter, the Pride put up 18 points while their defense held the Spartans to nine to take a 42-22 advantage at halftime that they would not relinquish.
- Along with Barnes, Jordan D'Ambrosio added 15 points and Mikayla Nicolini provided 11 points off the bench for the Pride in the victory.
- By scoring 76 points, the Pride still have the No. 1 ranked offense in the MAC Commonwealth, as they increased their average to 68.0 points per game.

The Pride hit the road again next Saturday to face Stevenson in another MAC Commonwealth game. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
