CHESTER, Pa. – In the second time in as many games, the Widener men's basketball team put together another rally, this time coming back from a 17-point deficit to top Albright, 73-65, on Wednesday night in its MAC Commonwealth contest at Schwartz Athletic Center.
With the win, the Pride won their second straight game to improve to 9-11 overall and 4-8 in MAC Commonwealth play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALBRIGHT
- Trailing, 26-9, with 8:53 left in the first half, the Pride went on a 26-14 run to cut the deficit to 40-35 at halftime. Pat Holden led the charge for the Pride, scoring nine of his game-high 19 points in that span. In addition, the Pride shot an eye-popping 62.5 percent from the field in the half.
- With 15:41 left in the second half, the Pride took a 46-44 lead — their first lead since a 2-0 advantage in the first half — by going on an 11-4 run to start the second frame. Kenny Lewis and Jared Peters paced the Pride with four points apiece during the run.
- After Albright took a 53-47 lead with 11:13 remaining following a 9-3 run, Widener managed to come back again and take a 60-58 lead with 4:23 left after putting together a 13-5 run. Matt Daulerio and AJ Sawyers each had four points in the run to lead the Pride, with Daulerio knocking down a three-pointer to give them the lead.
- From there, the Pride outscored the Lions, 13-7, to earn the victory. Holden had seven points for Widener during that stretch to put the win on ice.
- Along with Holden, Lewis, Peters and Steven Matlack each had double figures for the Pride. Lewis finished with 13 points while Peters and Matlack scored 12 apiece.
