YORK, Pa. – The Widener men's basketball team built a nine-point lead at halftime and held on to beat York, 61-60, on Saturday afternoon at Charles Wolf Gymnasium to win its third consecutive game.
With the win, the Pride are 10-11 overall and 5-8 in MAC Commonwealth play. The Pride currently sit in seventh in the MAC Commonwealth standings, but only trail by 1.5 games behind Messiah for fourth. The top four teams in the conference will earn a home game in the quarterfinals of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK
- The Pride went back and forth with the Spartans for most of the first half until the Pride put together a 14-3 run to overcome a 22-20 deficit and take a 34-25 lead at halftime. Jared Peters scored seven of the Pride's 14 points during the run.
- In the second half, the Pride never let go of their lead. Matt Daulerio kept the Pride ahead by scoring 13 of his game-high 17 points in the half.
- The Spartans had a chance to win the game at the end, but the Pride forced them into a tough off-balance jump shot that came up just short.
- During its three-game winning streak, Widener has only allowed 60 points per game.
- Along with Daulerio, Pat Holden and Kevin Schenk scored 11 points apiece to help the Blue and Gold earn the win.
- The Pride swept the season series with the Spartans after also beating them, 82-74, on Dec. 15 at home.
