CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener men's lacrosse team tried to overcome a five-goal deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not complete the comeback as it fell to Swarthmore, 14-12, on Saturday afternoon Clothier Field Stadium.
The loss put the Pride at 1-1 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SWARTHMORE
- Trailing, 12-7, through three quarters, the Pride ripped off four straight goals in the fourth to cut their deficit to one with 5:46 left. Bryant Maits paced the Pride during the run, scoring two of his team-high three goals, including the last goal of the run to get them within striking distance of tying Swarthmore.
- However, the Garnet added two goals three minutes later to put the lead back up to three. The Pride received their final goal from Connor Heisman with 38 seconds left.
- Along with Maits, Nick DiCicco also had a hat trick for the Pride. The hat trick was the second one for DiCicco on the year.
- Heisman and Jayce Dyer also added two goals apiece for Widener. Michael Tagliaferri and Matt Buckley rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

The Pride will be traveling to Whittier, Calif. Over spring break to face Whittier on Tuesday, March 1 in a non-conference clash. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
