CHESTER, Pa. –
Nick DiCicco tallied a hat trick and the Widener men's lacrosse team topped Delaware Valley, 14-8, in its season opener on Saturday afternoon at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium.
The win marked the third consecutive season-opening victory for the Pride.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY
- The Pride jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first 16:30 of the game. Bryant Maits scored two goals, while DiCicco, Jimmy Knepp, and Kyle Pollick each added a score.
- After Del Val put in three straight goals, the Pride scored four of the next five goals in the game to take a 9-4 lead into halftime. Jayce Dyer put in two of the Pride's goals during the run, while DiCicco and Michael Tagliaferri each had a goal.
- DiCicco added his final goal in the third quarter. DiCicco, Maits, and Tagliaferri tied for a game-high three points after Maits and Tagliaferri each had two goals and an assist.
- The Pride put on a shot clinic, as they had 52 attempts at the net. The Blue and Gold doubled the amount of shots that the Aggies took.
- Andrew Spencer and Keegan Billie combined for four saves in goal to help preserve the win.
UP NEXT
The Pride will be on the road next Saturday to take on Swarthmore in a non-conference clash. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
