CHESTER, Pa. – Widener women's basketball topped Wilkes in a winter break game on Saturday afternoon.
Following the 52-38 victory, the Pride move to 4-7 in regular season play and remain 1-3 in MAC Commonwealth going into the New Year.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN THE SCHWARTZ CENTER
The Pride opened the scoring gates with a quick 12 points in the first quarter. After a few missed baskets the Colonels were on the board with two points in the first. In the first, the Pride shot 5 of 14 (35.71%) from the floor and added two points from three throw attempts. The ladies kept the scoring consistent with 15 in the second quarter and tried to defend the charging Colonels with 13 points. In the second, the team again shot 5 of 14 (35.71%) from the floor but this time added nine points from three-point attempts. Going into halftime the team led 27-17.
Opening the second half was a controlling 18 points after the Colonels struggled in the paint from the Pride defense. The third quarter brought the team to shot 7 of 13 (53.85%) from the field and four points from foul shots. The Blue and Gold held a 25-point lead with 10 minutes remaining. The team struggled in the fourth but managed to pull through with seven points being added. Over the course of 60 minutes, Widener found 26 points in the paint, 11 points off caused turnovers, and seven points from tip-ins or offensive rebounds.

Widener continues their winter break games on Monday as they travel to Washington D.C. to play in the Holiday Tournament hosted by Catholic University. Tip-off for both games are set for 4 p.m. with the Pride playing Berea on Monday and Catholic on Tuesday.
