FREDERICK, Md. - The Widener women's soccer pushed past Hood in two overtimes Monday night after finishing the match with a tied score of 1-1. The Pride won in penalty kicks 4-3 and walked away with a victory.
The Pride is now 9-6-4 overall and is advancing in the MAC tournament.
HERE'S HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HOOD
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net in regulation play, forcing two overtime periods. Hood broke the deadlock in the 101st minute, but the Pride answered swiftly in the 107th minute when Mia Birney found Melissa Koch to tie the score 1-1 forcing a penalty shootout.
- The Pride and the Blazers went back and forth, each making three of their first four penalty shots. Maggie Boyes scored the fourth goal in the shoot out, leaving goalkeeper Samantha Coon with the chance to make the game winning save. Coon did not disappoint and the Pride walk away with a win, securing a place in the first round of the semifinals.
- On the evening, Coon racks up six saves against the Blazers' 14 total shots.
