CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener men's soccer team clinched the second seed in MAC Commonwealth Tournament following a 3-2 loss to No. 2 ranked Messiah on Saturday at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium.
With the loss, the Pride ended the regular season with a 10-5-2 record overall and a 6-1-1 mark in MAC Commonwealth play. The Pride finished with 19 points in the MAC Commonwealth standings and five points behind Messiah (8-0, 24), which earned the top seed for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.
The Pride also ended the regular season going 7-1-2 in its final 10 games after a 3-4 start.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MESSIAH
- In a battle for the No. 1 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament, the Pride managed to take a 1-0 lead on Messiah after Sean Fatiga scored a goal off a through ball from Kevin Witkoski. Fatiga's goal was his 13th on the season and 29th goal of his career.
- Then in the 26th minute, the Falcons scored the equalizer on a Matt McDonald goal. However, the Pride kept
- In the second half, the Falcons scored goals in the 55th minute and 65th minute to take a 3-1 advantage.
- The Pride tried to make one last rally, as Monsif Atify scored on a free kick in the 87th minute to make it 3-2. However, the Pride could not get any more shots off in the final three minutes.
- Ryan Van Pelt performed well in goal against the Falcons, making eight saves for Widener.

Widener will host third-seeded Alvernia in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament semifinals — the program's first conference semifinal appearance since 2015 — on Thursday. Kickoff for that game is 7 p.m.
