CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener men's soccer team advances in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament with a nail biter win over #3 Alvernia in semifinal match. Bryan Gaviria helps push the Pride to a late win on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Pride keep their playoff alive and move to 11-5-2 in regular and post season matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT QUICK STADIUM
- The Pride kept the pressure up in the first half opening with three near misses to put the Golden Wolves on their toes.
- In the span of eight minutes, Sean Fatiga found himself in a couple scoring changes early with a shot that hit the left post and a shot that missed just outside the right post.
- The Pride keep the shots up with another in the 40th minute by Christian Doyle to just sneak outside the top left corner.
- After a scoreless first half the Blue and Gold outshoot Alvernia seven to four.
- Alvernia opens the send half fast but the defense does its job and holds the Golden Wolves scoreless.
- Bryan Gaviria breaks the scoring drought with a late 86th minute goal from an Andrew Hurrell cross that send the Pride up 1-0.
- On the evening, Ryan Van Pelt kept the Golden Wolves scoreless with seven saves.
