ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Junior
Jordan D'Ambrosio poured in a game-high 21 points while leading the Widener women's basketball team to its third straight victory by earning a 67-57 win over Eastern on Wednesday night in its MAC Commonwealth contest at Eastern University.
The Pride pushed their overall record to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in MAC Commonwealth play with the victory. The Pride also swept the season series with the Eagles after also beating them, 75-50, on Dec. 8 at Schwartz Athletic Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EASTERN
- For the second straight game, the Pride led for the majority of the game, this time with the lead only changing one time in the game. After trailing, 3-0, 49 seconds into the game, the Pride went on a 13-1 run over the next six-and-a-half minutes and managed to take a 19-12 lead through the first quarter that they would never relinquish.
- D'Ambrosio led the charge for the Pride in the opening quarter, scoring eight of her 21 points in the frame. The Springfield, Pa., native finished the game 6-for-12 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
- Senior Erin Phelan put herself seven points away from reaching the 1,000-point mark for her career by scoring 15 points. The Downingtown, Pa. native looks to become the 13th 1,000-point scorer in Widener women's basketball history.
- Charlotte Stern was the only other Pride player in double figures, scoring 14 points. The senior from Voorhees, N.J., along with fellow classmate Brooke Bachtle, led the team in rebounds with eight and had a career-high three blocks.
- By scoring 67 points, the Pride still have the No. 1 ranked offense in the MAC Commonwealth, as they average 66.8 points per game. The Blue and Gold average 4.2 points per game more than the next best scoring offense in the conference.
