READING, Pa. – Seniors
Nicole Barnes and
Erin Phelan combined for 39 points while leading the Widener women's basketball team to an 82-73 win over Alvernia on Wednesday night in its MAC Commonwealth contest at Alvernia.
Barnes scored a game-high 21 points, while Phelan added 18 points for the Pride, who improved to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in MAC Commonwealth play with the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- Trailing, 39-37, at halftime, the Pride put together a 45-point second half while limiting the Golden Wolves to only 34 points. Barnes and Phelan led the charge for the Pride, as Barnes put in 12 points in the third quarter and Phelan had 10 in the fourth.
- Barnes' 21-point effort matched her career high, as she also had 21 in a game against Arcadia on March 12, 2021. The Garnet Valley, Pa. native also led the Pride with nine rebounds and tied for the team lead in assists with four.
- Phelan shot 9-for-18 from the field (50 percent) and had eight rebounds for the Blue and Gold.
- Brooke Bachtle, Jasmine Franklin and Jordan D'Ambrosio also scored in double figures for the Pride. Bachtle pitched in 13 points, Franklin scored 11 points off the bench, and D'Ambrosio chipped in 10.
- D'Ambrosio was a force on defense, making a career-high six steals. The Springfield, Pa. native's previous high for steals was three, which she had done three times in the 2019-20 season.
