Women’s Basketball Wins Two In a Row Against Hood

Phelan pours in 25 as Pride notch another MAC Commonwealth victory

CHESTER, Pa. – Senior Erin Phelan dropped 25 points while leading the Widener women's basketball team to a 67-55 win over Hood on Saturday afternoon in its MAC Commonwealth contest at Schwartz Athletic Center. 
 
With the win, the Pride improved to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. The win was the second in a row for the Blue and Gold. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HOOD 
  • The Pride led for the majority of the game. After trailing, 7-4, through the first three minutes, the Pride went on a 17-3 run to end the quarter and take a 21-10 lead. 
  • Even though the Blazers outscored them by one in the second quarter, the Pride won the third and fourth quarters, outscoring them, 12-11, and 18-17, respectively. 
  • Phelan shot 11-for-16 from the field (68.8 percent) and had five rebounds for the Blue and Gold. The Downingtown, Pa. native scored 20 or more points for the second time this season and now ranks sixth in the MAC Commonwealth in scoring average with 13.3 points per game. 
  • Jasmine Franklin provided a spark off the Pride's bench, scoring 12 points. The Baltimore, Md., native helped the Pride's bench outscore the Blazers' bench, 21-9.  
  • Nicole Barnes had a team-high 10 rebounds and seven assists. The Garnet Valley, Pa. native is now tied for the MAC Commonwealth lead in assists per game with 4.2. 
UP NEXT 
The Pride will go back on the road Wednesday when they travel to face Eastern in another MAC Commonwealth game. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
