READING, Pa. – The Widener men's basketball team had its two-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night after losing an 84-67 contest to MAC Commonwealth foe Alvernia on the road.
With the loss, the Pride fell to 7-9 overall and 2-6 in MAC Commonwealth play after notching wins over Mary Washington and Messiah in their last two contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- Jared Peters and Matt Daulerio led the Pride with 10 points apiece. Fresh off surpassing the 1,000-point plateau for his career during the Pride's win over Messiah, Peters now has 1,022 points as a member of the Blue and Gold.
- The Pride had a tough time in the first half against Alvernia, as they trailed, 42-23, through the first 20 minutes of the game. The Pride shot 34.5 percent in the half and did not make a three-pointer, while Alvernia shot 43.2 percent and made six threes.
- The Pride did manage to win the second half, outscoring the Golden Wolves, 44-42. Kevin Schenk and Luke Mazur paced the Pride in the final 20 minutes with eight points apiece.
- Schenk led the Pride in rebounds with a career-high 11 boards. The Pottsville, Pa. native's previous high was 10, which he accomplished twice last season.
