Women’s Basketball Battles No. 20 Messiah in MAC Commonwealth Contest

D’Ambrosio scores 18 points as Pride fall to Falcons

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Jordan D'Ambrosio scored 18 points, but the Widener women's basketball team could not upend No. 20 Messiah in their MAC Commonwealth matchup as the Falcons won, 77-53, on Monday afternoon at Hitchcock Arena. 
 
With the loss, the Pride are now 8-6 overall and 4-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MESSIAH 
  • Playing in their first game since Jan. 3 after having two games canceled due to COVID-19 protocols with their opponents, the Pride played the Falcons tough in the first quarter, as they held a 9-6 lead with 4:30 remaining in the period after D'Ambrosio scored five points and Erin Phelan and Nicole Barnes chipped in two apiece. However, the Falcons went on an 8-2 run to end the period. 
  • In the second quarter, the Falcons outscored the Pride, 27-6, to take a 41-17 lead at halftime. 
  • The Blue and Gold tied the Falcons in the second half at 36 and won the third quarter by a 19-17 edge. D'Ambrosio scored seven of her 18 points in the third period. 
  • Barnes was the only other Pride player in double figures, scoring 13 points. The Garnet Valley, Pa. Native also led Widener with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.  
UP NEXT 
The Pride will hit the road again Wednesday when they take on Alvernia in another MAC Commonwealth game at Alvernia. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
