GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Widener University women's soccer team faced its first road challenge on Wednesday night against Rowan University, but ultimately fell to the Profs 3-1 in its first setback of the season.
The Pride got off the first two shots of the match, but the Profs delivered the first goal in the 27th minute after a short feed into the box allowed a Rowan player to just barely beat the Widener keeper with a high shot. The Profs added onto their advantage with another score five minutes later and took that 2-0 lead into halftime.
Much like the first half, the Blue and Gold began the second act with a strong attack, but was unable to capitalize. Rowan added some insurance to its lead with a goal in the 84th minute to make the tally 3-0. Five days after scoring the game winner in WU's season opener, first year
Alyssa Carman provided the Pride's lone goal on a knocked away back pass with 3:47 to play.
Despite falling 3-1, sophomore goalkeeper
Samantha Coon recorded a personal best four saves in her second career start for Widener.
The Blue and Gold returns home on Saturday, September 11 to face Immaculata. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.
