CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University women's soccer team faced its first ranked opponent of the season in No. 2 The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night. The Blue and Gold battled throughout, but ultimately fell to the Lions by a score of 5-0.
The Pride defense held TCNJ scoreless through the first 30 minutes of play, but the Lions finally found the scoreboard with 13:45 remaining in the first. That spark got their offense going as they added two more scores to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
TCNJ maintained that momentum into second half and added some more insurance to its lead with a pair of early goals to go up by five. Despite a couple of late scoring opportunities from Widener forward
Alyssa Carman, TCNJ would never relinquish that lead en route to a 5-0 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Samantha Coon ended the night with a career-high 10 saves to slow the potent Lions offense.
