Brison of @Widener_Soccer Accepted Into MARCA Symposium

CHESTER, Pa. - Nick Brison, a member of the Widener University men's soccer team and the junior class of the Widener Athletic Leadership Institute, has been selected to participate in the 2021 Mid-Atlantic Region Commissioners Association (MARCA) Ethnic Minority Careers in Athletics Symposium (EMCAS).

"I was really pleased to see that the MAC offered this awesome opportunity for ethnic minorities, and because of that, I decided to apply," said Brison "I saw numerous opportunities in this program that would help me grow as a person, on and off the field. When I found out I was accepted, I was ecstatic! I look forward to applying my knowledge and skills to build as many connections as I possibly can with professionals in the field that I am interested in pursuing after graduation."

MARCA EMCAS is a multi-day, virtual program developed for ethnic minorities who are aspiring to, or just beginning, a career in athletics. This program aims to enrich participants' skills, expand their professional network, and promote the recruitment and retention of ethnic minorities within athletics, including the intercollegiate setting.

The symposium will utilize virtual platforms, such as Zoom, to gather facilitators and participants. Topics of focus include discovering who you are and how to communicate that with the right people; making connections; understanding various pathways to obtain a position in athletics; managing expectations for entering the field; doing more with less; and representation burnout.

"Our staff is beyond excited Nick was accepted into the MARCA Ethnic Minority Careers in Athletics Symposium," said men's soccer head coach Ross Liberati. "He is a constant positive influence for our program and his team mates feed off his exciting brand of leadership everyday in training. We look forward to seeing him continue to grow his voice through this program and wish him the best of luck!"

The symposium is scheduled to take place April 6-9 in conjunction with Division III week.
