CHESTER, Pa. –
Erin Phelan poured in 20 points off the bench and the Widener women's basketball team powered its way past Eastern, 75-50, on Wednesday night at Schwartz Athletic Center for its second straight MAC Commonwealth victory of the season.
With the win, the Pride improved to 2-1 in MAC Commonwealth play and 6-3 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EASTERN
- Phelan posted her eighth 20-point game of her career after shooting 10-for-13 (76.9 percent) from the field. The Downingtown, Pa. native had 14 of her 20 points in the first half, scoring eight in the first quarter while helping the Pride jump out to a 26-14 lead and adding six in the second to help give the Pride a commanding 43-22 halftime lead they would not relinquish.
- Gianna Samuels was the only other Widener player in double figures, as she scored 11 points off the bench. The Staten Island, N.Y. native also led the Pride in assists with four.
- Nicole Barnes filled out the stat sheet, as she led the Pride with nine rebounds and five steals while scoring eight points and handing out three assists.
- The Pride had 14 players see action on the night and 13 of them scored at least one point in the game.
- The Blue and Gold dominated Eastern's bench, outscoring the Eagles' bench by a 49-12 count.
- Widener also took advantage of Eastern's mistakes, scoring 25 points off the Eagles' turnovers.
