Matt Daulerio, and
Steven Matlack each scored in double figures, but the Widener men's basketball team could not keep pace with Lebanon Valley in the second half and wound up falling to the Dutchmen, 78-63, in its MAC Commonwealth opener Wednesday night at Schwartz Athletic Center.
The loss snapped the Pride's four-game winning streak and put them at 4-2 on the season. Peters paced the Pride in the defeat, scoring 16 points and seven rebounds, while Daulerio added 14 points and Matlack had 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LEBANON VALLEY
- The Pride held a brief 10-9 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Kolbey Woodard had four the team's 10 points in that span.
- After the Dutchmen went on a 6-0 run in the next minute, the Pride ended up playing catch-up for the rest of the game. The Blue and Gold cut the lead to one three times during the half, with the third time being at 34-33 with 1:09 remaining after Matlack threw down a one-handed dunk on a breakaway after he stole the ball. The Dutchmen ended up getting a layup with 49 seconds left to take a 36-33 lead at halftime.
- In the second half, the Pride made it a 55-54 lead for Lebanon Valley after going on a 7-3 run thanks to a three-pointer by Matlack, a jumper by Peters, and a jumper by Woodard. However, the Dutchmen went on a 23-9 run to close the game.
- The Pride shot 42.2 percent from the field for the game, while the Dutchmen shot 50.8 percent.
