CHESTER, Pa. –
Jordan D'Ambrosio hit a floating jump shot with 10 seconds left in overtime to lift the Widener women's basketball team to a 67-64 victory over Neumann on Tuesday night at Schwartz Athletic Center.
D'Ambrosio and
Erin Phelan led the Pride (3-1) with 16 points apiece in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST NEUMANN
- After trailing by eight points at halftime, the Pride put together a strong third quarter, pouring in 24 points to take a 48-43 lead. The Pride shot a blistering 62.5 percent from the field in the period.
- In the fourth quarter, Neumann managed to take a 60-53 lead with 2:53 left, but the Pride went on an 8-1 run in which Phelan made a bucket in the paint and Nicole Barnes hit two three-pointers from the top of the key to force overtime.
- In the overtime period, Widener never trailed and managed to take the lead for good after D'Ambrosio hit her game-winning shot from the right side of the lane. Phelan added a free throw with five seconds left to seal the victory.
- The Pride also received 11 points apiece from Barnes and Brooke Bachtle. Barnes also led the Blue and Gold with seven rebounds and four assists.
UP NEXT
The Pride will hit the road Saturday to play St. John Fisher in the first round of the Penn State Harrisburg Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. The winner of that game will face the winner between Penn State Harrisburg and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in the championship game on Sunday.
