Women’s Basketball Battles St. John Fisher In Pride-Spirit-Honor Tournament

D’Ambrosio scores 20 points to highlight Pride in loss

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Jordan D'Ambrosio poured in 20 points to lead the Widener women's basketball team's hard-fought effort against St. John Fisher, one of the top teams in the country, on Saturday night in the first round of the Pride-Spirit-Honor tournament at Penn State Harrisburg. Unfortunately, the Pride dropped a 76-56 contest.
 
The loss dropped the Pride's record to 3-2 on the year and put them in today's consolation game against Pitt-Bradford. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ST. JOHN FISHER
  • The Pride played tough in the first half against the Cardinals (5-0), who received votes in the D3hoops.com national poll, as they trailed 29-28 at halftime. They held a 14-12 lead after the first quarter and only trailed, 29-28, at halftime.
  • D'Ambrosio sparked the Pride's strong first quarter, scoring nine points on a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. The Springfield, Pa. native finished the game with an eye-popping 9-for-11 from the field (81.8 percent).
  • However, St. John Fisher put together a 26-point effort in the third quarter to pull away in the second half. 
  • Nicole Barnes also scored in double figures for the Blue and Gold, chipping in 13 points. The Garnet Valley, Pa. native led the Pride in rebounds (seven) and assists (four) in the defeat.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride will play Pitt-Bradford in the consolation of the tournament today. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
