Boxscore CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University field hockey team clinched the number three seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship after downing Eastern 4-1 in its final match of the regular season. The Pride finishes the fall 13-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
MACC CHAMPIONSHIP BERTH
- The Pride finished in a three-way tie with Lebanon Valley and Alvernia, but held the point differential and head-to-head tiebreakers it needed to secure the #3 spot in the standings.
- First year head coach Melissa McCarthy will make her first postseason appearance at the helm and her fourth overall with Widener.
- 2021 will also mark the third time in the past four years that the Blue and Gold has qualified for the conference tournament and the fourth straight season it will participate in postseason play.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Juliana Sanchez lead the way offensively with two scores – her second multi-goal performance this fall.
- Erin Callahan and Bryn Marcavage added one goal a piece. Callahan finishes the regular season second on the team in scoring with 27 points on 11 goals and five assists.
- Madi Radnoff and Jess Alba each dished one helper. Radnoff's 36 points this fall rank third all-time in program history while her 80 career points place her fourth all-time for Widener.
- First year goalkeeper Kylie Haberstroh picked up her 13th win in cage. She finishes the season with the conference's best goals against average (.930) and save percentage (.761).
- WU held a 22-4 shot advantage over the Eagles. The Blue and Gold has out shot its opponents by an impressive combined margin of 316-117 this fall.
- With the 4-1 final tally, the Pride has also scored more goals than any other team in the MAC Commonwealth this year (67) and is tied for the fewest allowed (16).

Widener gets a much deserved week of rest before traveling to York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, November 3 to take on the number two seeded Spartans in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Semifinals. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
