CHESTER, Pa. – Two goals, each coming off headers, propelled the Widener University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Neumann University Knights on Tuesday night.
The win moved Widener to 5-0 for the first time since the 2002 season.
Highlights
- Isabella Hill notched her third goal of the season, receiving a beautifully placed cross from Hannah Berard.
- The Pride defense held the Knights to zero shots throughout the contest.
- The three assists set a new season-high for WU.
How it happened
Despite creating 10 scoring chances, the Pride could not beat the Knights keeper before halftime. She made three saves in the first 45 minutes of action.
Lexi Slusher and
Alyssa Dionisio were the shot-leaders heading into the intermission, tallying three a piece.
The WU attack did not let up in the second, eventually breaking the scoreless drought in the 60th minute. Berard sent a cross from the right side, finding the head of Hill who guided the ball into the lower right corner. Nearly 20 minutes later, WU showcased fantastic ball-movement, taking a two-goal advantage in the process. Garcia laid a ball off to Lyons. Lyons one-timed the pass, curling it from the left into the middle of the Neumann box where it was heading it past the Knights goalie, solidifying the final score with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
