CHESTER, Pa. –
Ryan McMahon led five Widener players in double figures with a season-high 20 points as the Pride won its second straight game, claiming an 84-75 MAC Commonwealth win against the Albright Lions on Wednesday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- McMahon dropped 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting while coming up one point shy of his career best. He also flirted with his second career triple-double, pulling in eight rebounds and dishing eight assists.
- Jalen Howard and Jared Peters each scored 11 in the contest. For Howard, it was his fifth game in double figures this season after having just two such games in his career entering 2018-19.
- Jair Williams posted career-highs with 10 points and three blocks in the game. Tyler Drews also scored 10.
- Widener shot a blistering 57.6 percent (34-for-59) from the floor including 19-for-32 (59.4 percent) in the first half.
- The Blue and Gold outrebounded its opponent for the second straight contest, winning the battle on the glass 39-34.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions got the quick start in the contest, hitting its first two shots and going up 5-0 before WU went on a 16-2 run, taking a 16-7 lead at the 12:23 mark.
- Albright pulled back to a four-point gap and held it close for the next two minutes before the Pride outscored the Lions 29-15 in the final 10 minutes of the frame, opening a 47-29 lead at halftime.
- Widener pushed the tempo opening the second stanza, pulling out to its largest lead of the night at 61-38 on a trey by Peters with 14:22 remaining.
- Albright methodically chipped into the lead and eventually got the edge down to nine at 83-74 with 46 seconds left, but were unable to finish the climb.
