FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA. – The Widener University women's basketball team faced off against Curry College on Thursday morning, shooting 50 percent from the field in route to an 82-65 victory.
Facing a four-point deficit at the end of the first quarter, Widener turned it up in the second. The reserves led an offensive charge before the half.
Helena Salmon hit three free-throws and a three-pointer for six points.
Brooke Bachtle put up five.
Kyra Schenk notched four points and four boards. WU was up six at the intermission.
The Blue and Gold maintained its lead for the rest of the game, holding off multiple Curry runs. Its biggest advantage came with 1:12 left in regulation when
Mikayla Nicolini sunk a foul shot.
Game Highlights:
- Devan Rimmer led Widener in scoring, recording 24 points on 56 percent shooting
- The nation's assist leader, Madison Ireland, tallied 11 assists for the fourth time on the season
- Emily Hardy was perfect from the field and free-throw line, going for nine points
- Kyra Schenk went for eight and eight
- Emma Gardy had seven points and three rebounds
- Erin Phelan contributed nine points
- The Widener bench outscored Curry's reserves 36-2
- WU's ball-movement was stellar. The team had 23 assists
- The Pride outrebounded the Colonels 45-33
