@WUWBB Ends 2018 on a High Note, Defeating Sage College in the Final Game of the Cruzin' Classic

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Widener University women's basketball team played its last game of 2018 on Thursday afternoon, defeating Sage College 68-51. Four different Pride players put up double digits in points.

Widener took a one-point lead nearly three minutes into the first quarter and never looked back, controlling the rest of the game. The Pride went into the second with a five-point advantage. Devan Rimmer scored 10 points in the opening quarter. Keeping its foot on the gas, the Pride widened the gap to 12 points at the intermission.

Emily Hardy and Kyra Schenk each notched four points in the third quarter, contributing to Widener's 20-point margin entering the final quarter. Once the Blue and Gold created a comfortable 21-point lead with five minutes left in regulation, the reserves took over. Izzy Hamlin and Charlotte Stern helped solidify the final score.

By The Numbers:
  • Devan Rimmer finished with 18 points, shooting 50 percent from the field. She also had five rebounds
  • Erin Phelan had 11 points
  • Kyra Schenk went five-for-six from the floor, recording 10 points. The sophomore center had two blocks
  • Emily Hardy led the team in rebounds, grabbing eight
  • Nicole Barnes was huge off the bench on both ends of the floor. She had 10 points to go along with three steals
  • 40 of Widener's points came from within the paint
  • Solid defensive play caused 24 Sage turnovers
  • WU's bench put up 27 points
  • The Pride did not give up many possessions, only turning the ball over 14 times.

Up Next:
The second half of the season begins on Saturday, January 5. The Pride goes up against conference opponent Lebanon Valley at the Schwartz Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
