CHESTER, Pa. –
Jordan Katz made eight saves and three different players scored as the Widener men's soccer team upended the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions 3-0 at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zach Jankauskas got the Pride on the board just under 10 minutes into the match as he took a through ball from Kevin McKenna and sent it past the keeper, who had come off his line in an attempt at the play.
- Doug Kunkle made it 2-0 as he knocked home a header off a feed from a free kick off the boot of John Colbert.
- Logan Musselman salted the game away late in the second half when he took the ball from 30 yards out and used a superb individual effort to take it for the next 20 yards before striking it in the back of the net.
- Katz made eight saves in the contest, six in the first half.
TURNING POINT
In the 28th minute, Widener drew a foul and the Pride was able to convert as Colbert sent a perfect cross in from the left side that Kunkle was able to redirect home for the second goal for the Blue and Gold.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The three goals by Widener were the most for the team since a four tally output at Rosemont on Sept. 21, 2016.
- Jankauskas and Kunkle each scored the first of their respective careers.
- The eight saves for Katz were a career-high.
