CHESTER, Pa. –
Lauren Wilson scored a pair of goals with less than eight minutes remaining as the Widener University women's soccer team engineered a late 2-1 comeback win in a MAC Commonwealth contest against the Alvernia Golden Wolves from Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Widener is now 10-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 1-0, the Pride broke through in the 83rd minute when Wilson redirected a cross from the right side of the box off the foot of Lexi Slusher to level the match at 1-1.
- Wilson provided the game-winner just four minutes later as after a 20-yard run down the middle on her own, she rocketed the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards out.
- Despite neither team scoring in the first 45 minutes, Widener had the better of play, holding the majority of possession and a 16-2 advantage in shots, forcing seven saves out of the Golden Wolves keeper.
- The first tally of the game was scored by Alvernia in the 71st minute when, off a corner, Maria Petrongolo headed a ball just inside the far post.
- Widener had some chances in the next several minutes including a header from Shea Scannell that forced a strong effort by Jessica Plunkett in goal.
