Errico’s Last-Minute Goal Shoots Women’s Soccer Past Delaware Valley

CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Brielle Errico (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) found the back of the net in the 89th minute to propel the Widener University women's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 victory over Delaware Valley on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.

After outshooting the Aggies by a commanding 16-1 through the first 45 minutes of action, Widener kept its foot on the gas pedal and continued to pummel goalkeeper Brenna Coll with a barrage of shots. Junior Karli Luker (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) unleashed a rocket that was punched over the net by a diving Coll to force a corner kick, and Eva Reyes (Cranbury, N.J.) had a good look that went just wide right of the net in the opening minutes.

With overtime looming and the match still being played in the Pride's offensive third, Widener finally broke through with the only goal it needed with just 1:07 remaining in regulation. Errico received a pass inside the box from senior Nicole Foschini (Laurel Springs, N.J.), and the freshman rifled the ball to the upper 90 of the net past Coll for her second marker of the fall. Foschini was credited with the assist on the play that proved to be the difference.

Senior goalkeeper Olivia Pfautz (Ephrata, Pa.) made three saves to pick up her third shutout of the young season for Widener, which was anchored defensively by Kelliann Burns (Clarksboro, N.J.), Brooke Palmieri (Erial, N.J.), Brandy Toso (Millville, N.J.) and Gabrielle Campbell (Mickleton, N.J.). The Pride outshot the Aggies 34-4 and had a 10-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Coll of Delaware Valley (2-3-1) suffered the loss despite turning away 17 shots.

Widener (2-3-1) visits Bryn Mawr on Saturday, Sept. 19 at noon.
