Women's Soccer Falls in Overtime to Franklin & Marshall, 2-1

LANCASTER, Pa. (September 12, 2015) –Lauren Wilson (National Park, N.J.) gave the Widener women's soccer team an earlier first half lead, but the Pride were unable to hold the lead as they fell to Franklin & Marshall, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday.
 
Widener falls to 1-3-1, while Franklin & Marshall improved to 2-2-1.
 
The sophomore forward recorded her fourth goal of the season in the 26th minute on a breakaway created by freshman Brielle Errico (Monmouth Junction, N.J.). Errico streaked the left side of the pitch before crossing the ball to Wilson in front of the net.
 
Meghan Byrne tied the game up for the Diplomats in the 63rd minute. The defender found the bottom left of the net in one of her two shots on goal. Byrne finished the match with three shots.
 
Just under two minutes into the first overtime period, Hannah Kowalewski ended the game for the Diplomats. The game-winning goal by the sophomore midfielder was assisted by Byrne.
 
Nicole Savidge recorded three saves in the victory for Franklin & Marshall.
 
The was outshot by Franklin & Marshall 12-10, with nine of the Diplomats shots on target.
 
Courtney Overacker recorded a team high four shots, while Kyra Judge added three shots for the Diplomats.
 
Wilson and freshman Mikaela Malofiy (Horsham, Pa.) notched three shots a piece, while Errico added two shots for Widener.
 
Senior goalkeeper Olivia Pfautz (Ephrata, Pa.) notched seven saves in 92 minutes played.
 
The Blue and Gold will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Delaware Valley at 7 p.m. at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
