GETTYSBURG, Pa. (Mar. 25, 2015) – The Widener men's lacrosse team fell on the road to non-conference foe Gettysburg by a score of 15-5 Wednesday afternoon at the Shirk at Musselman Stadium in Gettysburg, Pa.
The Bullets remained perfect with the win (8-0), while the Pride slipped to 1-7 on the season.
The home squad jumped ahead early, notching the first three goals of the game in just under 10 minutes of play before sophomore attacker
Tyler Schulte (Southhampton, N.J.) found the back of the net off a feed from sophomore midfielder
Vince Marra (Morton, Pa.) with 4:02 left to play in the first quarter.
Gettysburg then rattled off five-consecutive goals over a span of 15 minutes to take an 8-1 advantage. Schulte once again had a hand in ending the Bullets run as he dished a feed to fellow sophomore attacker
Nick Striebich (Ellicott City, Md.) for the Pride's second goal of the game. Gettysburg answered with six ticks left in the first half to extend its lead to 9-2 heading into the intermission.
Marra and freshman midfielder
Patrick Richardson (Westville, N.J.) teamed up for the Pride's first two goals of the second half, pulling within five of Gettysburg (9-4). After another score by the Bullets, Schulte tallied his second goal of the game with the assist from junior attacker
Tim Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) to once again be within five scores.
But Gettysburg ended the contest with five unanswered to secure the 15-5 victory.
Junior
Chris Treat (Havertown, Pa.) made a game-high 10 saves in his 56:48 minutes between the pipes.
Schulte and Marra led the Pride offensively as they each registered two goals and an assist on the afternoon.
The Pride return to Commonwealth action on Saturday, Mar. 28 as they head to Frederick, Md. for a 1 p.m. match-up against Hood.
