Widener participated in the Play 4Kay campaign for the seventh consecutive year. In support of the initiative and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, the Pride honored members close to the women's basketball program prior to tip-off. In addition, the team wore pink uniforms during the game, while coaching staff all sported pink golf-shirts. All proceeds from today's game benefited the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Today's event coincided with the national campaign taking place in gyms and arenas across the country from February 13-23rd.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in 2007 from the vision of the organization's namesake, Coach Kay Yow. The celebrated North Carolina State Women's basketball coach and leader of two Olympic gold medal teams was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away in 2009. For eight years, the Play 4Kay initiative has united a nation and provided more than $3.8 million to support women's cancer research.
