CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2015) – Freshman
Katie Mindnich (Bellingham, Wash.) found the back of the net early in the second half to lift the Widener University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Hood in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action on Saturday evening at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
After a scoreless opening frame, Mindnich gave the Pride the only goal they needed when she unleashed a shot from about 15 yards away on the right side. It was also the freshman's first career goal which would prove to be the difference.
Prior to the match, Widener recognized seniors
Olivia Pfautz (Ephrata, Pa.),
Brae McQuade (Princeton Junction, N.J.) and
Alyssa Knox (West Chester, Pa.) for their contributions to the program.
Pfautz picked up the victory without needing to make a save for the Pride, which outshot Hood 13-3 and had a 5-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Rachel Knoebel made three saves in the losing effort for Hood (4-10, MAC Commonwealth 0-4).
Widener (5-7-1, MAC Commonwealth 1-3) arguably faces its toughest test of the season when it hosts #2-ranked Messiah on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
