#1 Messiah Defeats Women's Soccer; Pfautz Sets Career High With 14 Saves

CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 21, 2015) – Nikki Elsaesser scored twice to lead #1-ranked Messiah to a 6-0 triumph over the Widener University women's soccer team on Wednesday evening at Leslie C. Quick Stadium. The Falcons outshot the Pride and scored three times in each half to earn the convincing win.

Messiah improved to 13-0-2 overall and 5-0 in MAC Commonwealth play with the victory, while Widener dropped to 5-8-1 overall and 1-4 in league play with the setback.

Elsaesser set the tone early by factoring into the visiting team's first two goals. She found the back of the net in the fourth minute before finding Holly Burgard in the 15th to double the advantage. Emily Lockwood then netted her first career goal after catching senior goalkeeper Olivia Pfautz (Ephrata, Pa.) out of position to make it 3-0 at the break.

Messiah added three more quick tallies in the second half to put the match away. Marisa Weaver headed home for the fourth marker, Skylar Ulry added the fifth goal and Elsaesser closed the scoring in the 54th minute.

Audra Larson and Sara Yunez combined for the shutout between the pipes for the Falcons. The Pride's Pfautz made a career-high 14 saves in the losing effort.

Widener resumes action at Arcadia on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 3:00 p.m.
