Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Upends Grove City, 1-0, in the ECAC South Tournament

Junior Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ) kept up his torrid scoring pace, netting a first-half goal that stood up in Widener's 1-0 victory at Grove City in the ECAC South Tournament quarterfinals in Grove City, PA.

Widener (11-6-1) recorded its second postseason victory in program history, including a 2-0 triumph over Wilkes in the 1999 ECAC South Tournament quarterfinals.  The seventh-seeded Pride advance to the semifinals on Saturday against either No. 3 seed Misericordia or sixth-seeded Marywood at a site and time to be announced.

Widener is playing in the ECAC Tournament for the fifth time in school history.

Remondelli has been one of the catalysts all season and again proved his mettle.  In the 18th minute, he took a pass from freshman Doug Kunkle (Shillington, PA) and buried it for his 14th goal of the year and 26th career to extend his own school records.

Remondelli, named first team All-Commonwealth Conference this year after being tabbed second team last season and Honorable Mention in 2012, now has 32 points this season to set a new school record.  He also has 59 career points, moving into a tie with Bill James (2005-08) for first in school history.

Widener faced a barrage of shots throughout, especially in the second half when sophomore goalkeeper Dave Sousa (Springfield, PA) came up big in getting his eighth shutout of the season to set a new school record.  He made seven saves after intermission, including a stop of Justin Phillips in the 87th minute and Frank Hueber in the 88th minute.

Sousa, tabbed Honorable Mention all-conference, ended with eight saves.

Remondelli attempted four shots and junior Eric Taylor (Bensalem, PA) had three for the Pride.

"Defensively we were strong and once again able to be dangerous on attacking restarts," Widener coach Brent Jacquette said.

Tim Shackleton took five shots and Malcolm Blake made two saves for the Wolverines (12-8-1).
