Men's Soccer Earns Key Victory Over Albright in Home Finale

Sophomore Dave Sousa (Springfield, Pa) was forced to make key saves in Widener's regular-season home finale, a 2-0 Commonwealth Conference win over Albright at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Sousa recorded two saves within in seconds of each other early in the first half. The Lions were able to get three shots off on Widener (10-5-1, 3-4 CC) inside the box, forcing the defense to step up. Junior Zac Furia (Morton, Pa) made a key defensive save just inches from the goal line in the 16th minute.

Sousa finished the game with three saves on seven shots by Albright (6-11-1, 1-6). The sophomore's seventh shutout of the season now ranks him tied for second all-time in shutouts in a season with Mark McManus from 1999.

Eric Taylor (Bensalem, Pa) opened the scoring in the 14th minute when the junior knocked home a pass from classmate Ross Staudt (Marlton, NJ). Staudt saw Taylor open on the opposite side of the box for a shot from six yards out.

Freshman Austin Olenhouse (Lititz, Pa) iced the game with his first collegiate goal in the 53rd minute. Junior Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ) crossed a pass to an open Taylor who headed the ball to Olenhouse to put home.

Remondelli's assist in the 53rd minute has given him 30 points on the season and 57 points all-time. The junior now ranks tied for first all-time with points in a season with Tim Miller, who achieved that feet in 1998. Remondelli is now tied for second all-time in points in a career with Miller.

The win also gives the Pride 10 victories for the first time since 2004.

Widener is tied with Hood (3-3) for the fifth and final conference-tournament spot, but will be on the bye Tuesday while the remaining eight teams in the league compete.  The Pride end the regular season next Saturday at Lycoming, starting at 2:30 pm in Williamsport, PA.
