Egee Drops 27 Points, Women's Basketball Drops 61-59 Conference Game to No. 24 Leb Val

(box score)

Senior Jen Egee (Ridley Park, PA) scored 27 points on Saturday, but Widener fell in the end to Commonwealth Conference foe and 24th-ranked Lebanon Valley 61-59 at Schwartz Center.

Widener (3-3, 1-2 CC) held a 34-30 lead going into halftime by shooting 56.5 percent from the field and out-rebounding the Dutchmen 19-12. Egee scored 19 points and made two blocks in the first half alone to lead the Pride.

The Dutchmen fought back from the start of the second half and took the lead 43-41 with 10 minutes remaining. With two minutes left and Widener down by four, freshman Leilani Beckham (Aldan, PA) stole the ball away at half court, drove to the hoop, scored a layup and drew a foul. After the made free-throw Widener was down by one, but due to some costly fouls and the free-throw shooting ability of the Dutchmen, the game would end with the Pride down two.

Egee would end with a career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 from the field and 7-of-8 from the line. Defensively, she brought down seven rebounds, made one steal and played every minute. Egee leads the conference with 19.0 points and stands 12th with 6.5 rebounds per game.

Beckham led the team in the contest with six assists and four steals to go along with her three points. Junior Kristina Reiter (Sewell, NJ) scored six points, managed two steals and five rebounds.

Falling one point short of a double-double, junior Courtney Colella (Cinnaminson, NJ) scored nine points on 3-of-6 shooting and brought in a team-leading 10 rebounds. Colella leads the team averaging 7.1 rebounds per game and with 1.1 blocks per game.

The Pride finished shooting 40 percent from the field and 84 percent from the line.

Widener returns to the Schwartz Center on Wednesday night to face off against cross-county rival Swarthmore at 7:00 pm.
