Widener took on Elizabethtown in Commonwealth Conference play at Schwartz Center and came out with a strong 79-52 victory.

Widener's ladies donned pink game uniforms for the third straight year and the fans wore their pink “Play 4Kay” tee-shirts for the Pride's fifth straight “Play 4Kay” game. Play 4Kay is an initiative by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to raise money for the Kay Yow cancer fund in honor of the late women's basketball coach at North Carolina State University.

Before the game, breast cancer survivors of the Widener Women's Basketball family were honored and presented with flowers from the team by head coach Alisa Kintner. Once both teams' starting line-ups were announced, one of the survivors threw the honorary tip-off with a pink basketball.

Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) started the game off with a steal with less than a minute gone from the clock, which turned into a two-point field goal by Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) as the shot clock buzzer sounded.

Sophomore Jennifer Egee (Ridley Park, PA) was a force from the outside, sinking 5-of-6 three-point attempts in the first half. Egee left herself with 19 points in the first half, just one point shy of breaking her career high points in a single which she passed by adding two more points in the second half, giving her 21. She also recorded three steals and ended shooting 8-of-9 in field goals.

The Pride (13-7, 6-3 CC) got out in front with about six and a half minutes remaining in the first half with one of Egee's three-pointers. A steal by Lil Carney (Narberth, PA) followed by a pass around the defender to Dellinger forced the Blue Jays (13-6, 6-3) to take a timeout with about five minutes left. In the last five minutes of the first half, the Pride outscored Elizabethtown 14-5, leaving the score sit 40-25 at the break.

Widener picked up the ball right where it left off, outshooting Elizabethtown 39-27 in the second half. Carney shot six-for-six from the line and finished close behind Egee with 17 total points, 13 of which came during the second half of the game. Carney and freshman Ally Ferrucci (Vineland, NJ) were key players on offense, finishing with six and four assists, respectively. Hejnas came up big for the Pride's defense by recording three blocked shots and hitting double-digits with 10 rebounds. Dellinger totaled four steals and three assists to go with 14 total points and seven rebounds, six of which occurred on defense.

For the Blue Jays, Kendra Beittel led the scoring with 12 total points. Nadine Yunginger followed closely behind with 11 points. Stephanie Ellwood tallied three steals, two assists, nine total points and seven rebounds, six being defensive.

Widener hosts Messiah on Saturday, February 4 as part of another Commonwealth Conference doubleheader. The women's game tips off at 1:00 pm with the men's game following, at approximately 3:00 pm.
