Kate Dellinger Exceeds 1,000 Points As Women’s Basketball Defeats Arcadia 106-71

Widener senior Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) became the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career points in her team's 106-71 Commonwealth Conference victory at Arcadia in Glenside, PA.
 
Dellinger got her scoring started early by hitting a jumper less than a minute into play to tie the game before her and her teammates were able to get a jump on Arcadia (4-5, 0-5 CC), taking a nine-point lead with five minutes expired in the first half. Before breaking for the half, Dellinger hit a 3-pointer to make the score 65-30 in favor of Widener (7-2, 4-1).
 
For the game, Dellinger scored 23 points by shooting 10-of-18 from the floor. Jennifer Egee (Ridley Park, PA) also shot well, totaling 19 points over 18 minutes. She shot 7-of-10 from the floor, which included 4-for-7 from 3-point range. Senior Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) and junior Joanna Persiano (Absecon, NJ) each had 12 points, Persiano hit two 3-pointers in each half, Hejnas shot 6-of-11 from the floor and senior Lil Carney (Narberth, PA) added 10 points and 10 assists.
 
Dellinger also led the team with seven rebounds, with Hejnas grabbing six and sophomore Courtney Colella (Cinnaminson, NJ) getting four to go with eight points. As a team, the Pride shot 56 percent from the floor, 60 percent from 3-point range and 47 percent from at the line.

Dellinger, who last season was tabbed Honorable Mention WBCA All-America and second team Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America, now stands at 1,006 career points.

It was Widener's greatest point total since netting a school-record 107 points against Western Maryland on February 7, 1981.

Valerie DiMuro had 22 points and 17 rebounds, Maureen Fiocca netted 15 points, Morgan Wensley had 12 and Samantha Caligiuri added 10 for the Knights.
