Mario Carpino to Run Alex's Lemonade Stand at Home Games This Week

Nine-year-old Mario Carpino, adopted last year by Widener's men's soccer team, will run Alex's Lemonade Stand at four of the school's home athletics events this week.

He will be selling lemonade during Widener's field hockey game Wednesday against Messiah at 4:00 pm, the football contest vs. Albright at 1:00 pm, the women's soccer game against Elizabethtown at 5:30 pm and the men's soccer tilt vs. Elizabethtown at 7:30 pm.

Mario was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 4 and was adopted by the team as part of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, a non-profit organization that matches children battling pediatric brain tumors with college sports teams.  He was named team captain for Widener's game against Lycoming at PPL Park last year and gave the men his words of wisdom that we should all try our best and never give up no matter what.

The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors.  The organization has over 350 children placed on over 30 different types of sports teams in 48 states.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) was founded in 2000 by four-year-old Alex Scott to raise money in hopes of finding a cure for all children with cancer.  To date, the foundation has raised over $55 million and has funded more than 250 research projects.
